This time PRM-ATV, which had already been making some skid plates went away from suspension all together and concentrated on skid plates, grab bars and the now needed front bumpers as well. Along with the longer suspension and linkages and the power to push them came a much greater need for skid plates to protect the vulnerable underside. Laeger and Lonestar frames, with narrow front sections to allow long A-Arms like Roll Design’s Lobo kit and full blown, ported race engine’s were available straight out of the box. However this opened the door for aftermarket companies to not only replicate the 250R’s chassis and engine but to design full blown race machines based on the winning platform. This ended the production of a legend in the 1989 TRX250R. Had it not been for a mega lawsuit that took the feet out from under Honda, who knows where it may have led. The TRX250R was introduced and by the 1988 model it had become the benchmark that all sport quads would be compared to for the next decade. Then in 1986 the trend became crystal clear. Then again we saw a first, the 4 wheel sport machines, though nothing like the industry has to offer today, the potential was immediately recognized. New exciting creations were introduced every year like the 1985 250R, and the 350X which are still highly reguarded today. The models improved offering better suspension, water cooled engines in lighter, wider, better ergonomical packages. Low on power and suspension but high on excitement that people had not seen before, the sport started to grow and people including us wanted some better (or just some) suspension so began PRM-ATV by developing suspension kits and grab bars for the ATC’s. Intrigued by the little trikes with no suspension and big balloon tires like the Honda ATC/TRX70, 185S, &250R we began to see more and more interest in them and couln’t resist ourselves. In the early years (1980-1984) we began seeing these weird little rigs with 3 wheels out on the Arizona sand dunes, which at that time were fairly empty except for a few tweaked and modified full sized trucks. I thought it would be kind of cool to look back through the years and pass on our perception of the evolution of the ATV’s as it affected us as enthusiests and as a business who has been here and will continue to be here for the long haul. We lived the life, and realized what products are needed and went about putting together a business that could offer peolpe what they need and want. We didn’t come from a fabricating business that saw potential in the market and decided to build products for them. ![]() Thats right, if you do the math you’ll realize we have been here since the beginning. Wow! PRM-ATV is approaching our 30 year anniversary in business exclusively as a high quality manufacturer of ATC, ATV, & UTV( SidexSide) aluminum accessories.
